The Charge against Nawal El Saadawi was dropped!
Today a
Family court in North Cairo dropped the charge against Nawal El Saadawi,
the well - known writer and women's rights activist. In the last four
months there was an ongoing campaign launched by Islamic groups to use
legal means to forcibly divorce Saadawi from her husband on the basis of
Hizba, an Islamic principle. This was an attack to silent any criticism
and a continuation of what Islamic groups have done to the people, to the
freedom and to the basic human's rights in the Middle East in more than
two decades.
Meanwhile, there was an international campaign against the trial of
Saadawi and other activities to put pressure on Egyptian authorities and
the Islamic groups to drop the charge and dismiss the trial. This was a
victory for free thought and freedom and a defeat for reactionary groups.

congratulate Nawal El Saadawi and all individuals and organizations who
joined this campaign and made this victory possible.
