Final 2006 Quarterly Session Caps Off Leaders' Circle First Year

Leaders' Circle, the NAWBOŽ-SF peer-to-peer advisory group for women business owners with revenues over $2 million, held its last 2006 Quarterly Session on October 19 at the beautiful and historic Merchants Exchange Building in downtown San Francisco.

The Session speaker was Jim Horan, author of the best selling book "The One Page Business Plan". Horan shared deceptively simple techniques, which helped the Leaders' Circle attendees immediately crystallize their vision, mission, objectives, strategies and plans in order to grow their businesses. All attendees received a copy of Horan's book and the Entrepreneur's Toolkit CD. Leaders' Circle, Presented by Wells Fargo, is a growing division of NAWBOŽ-SF completing its pilot year. Core Leaders' Circle members meet once a month in a confidential environment to discuss the issues of their growing businesses. Once a quarter, Leaders' Circle invites an outside speaker and welcomes other Bay Area women entrepreneurs to participate so they may experience what a Leaders' Circle session is like.

Each Quarterly Program is held in a unique San Francisco venue, with past sessions being held at the Museum of African Diaspora (MoAD) and Greenberg Studios. NAWBOŽ-SF member Mary Janaitis and Gussie Stewart of MSJ Consulting serve as the Program Directors for Leaders' Circle. Susan Shargel, Shargel & Co. Insurance Services, is the Chair of Leaders' Circle.

The event was catered by NAWBOŽ-SF member Alison Rowe of Harvest & Rowe. The next Leaders' Circle Quarterly Session is scheduled for January 23, 2007, and will be held in the Nordstrom's Executive Suite in San Francisco.

Jim Horan will also be speaking at the NAWBOŽ-SF dinner meeting on November 9th.

If you would like to learn more about Leaders' Circle, please contact Diana Kimbrell at (415) 331-1334 or [email protected]

Small Business California 2006 Legislative Wrap Up, from Scott Hauge

Small Business California is a proactive, non-partisan business advocate whose only agenda is the well being of California's 1,137,584 small businesses. Working for all small businesses for a better business environment, SB-Cal is responsive to the needs of small business owners.

SB-Cal members have worked hard toward sponsoring and advocating solutions-based legislation in Sacramento. Our board members and executive director testified numerous times in Sacramento before the legislature and went to Sacramento almost on a weekly basis during the session to testify on legislation impacting small business in California. The success of Small Business California during this past legislative session is gratifying and you should know that when we discussed bills affecting California's small business climate, it was almost always as the lead small business organization fighting for these bills and our members.

Small Business California has come a long way over the last two years in establishing a voice for grass roots small businesses. The email tree we have put in place to about 2400 small businesses has developed a reputation for providing the most current information about issues in Sacramento that affect small businesses.

NAWBOŽ-SF to Issue RFP for Website

NAWBOŽ-SF is looking to identify a full-service public communications management company to manage and execute all the electronic public communications and website activities of the San Francisco chapter of the National Association of Women Business Owners (NAWBOŽ). As such, presentation, customer service and state of the art information systems capability are essential.

NAWBOŽ members wishing to respond to this RFP may respond collaboratively, on condition that all requirements are met and that redundancy of skills and functions is demonstrated clearly. The onus will be on the collaborating parties to ensure all deliverables are met.

This RFP contains four distinct bid components. They are:
--Website management, development and design service needs to support and reflect the time-sensitive and constantly changing information for all NAWBO's programs, events and membership database
--Publications and Member Mailings service needs for event notification to our members through e-mails and newsletters
--Electronic membership database management to support our members and keep all information current and up-to-date on the website.
--Website development and design service needs for improving the overall public image of NAWBO-SF's website on an ad-hoc basis as requested by the NAWBO-SF board.

The RFP will be released on November 1 - check our website or contact Rhoda Singer at 415.333.2130 for a copy.
