... Cindy Fassler Celebrates 25 Years in Business! Cindy had worked for another staffing service which closed its office. As any bright woman knew, she needed financing to start her own company. Which bank should she approach? She went to the only bank she knew would help her—her Dad—and asked him for a loan. Her dad said: Present me with a marketing plan, and we’ll talk. (All her Mother wanted her to do was to get married and have kids!) 1982 was before the internet, so Cindy used the library for research. She prepared her plan—her dad tweaked it, gave her ideas, and lent her the money. She called all of her clients who had worked with her previously, and then, Cindy was in business! Temporary Support Services was born. She paid back her dad in three years. Cindy says to always follow your gut instinct. If you don’t know the answer to a question, be honest. Don’t fake it. If you don’t know, tell the other person you don’t know. Be clear about your values. Stay focused. Everyone goes through a time when they are just going through the motions. Get back on track as soon as you can. Cindy is celebrating 25 years of TSS Personnel by giving a party for every client who has given her a job order in last 10 years. NAWBO is celebrating, too. Congratulations, Cindy!
... Deborah Wilder Managing Partner, WCOE was conceived in 1983 by 11 construction women who envisioned a national association to custom fit their unique business needs. They formed Women Construction Owners & Executives, USA to promote opportunities and business for women-owned firms and policy-making executives in the construction industry. Today, the association continues to grow, adding members and establishing chapters across the country. As a Coalition Partner of Women Impacting Public Policy (WIPP), WCOE continues to advocate and influence the national agenda affecting women owned businesses. ... The new season of the TV reality series "Survivor" began in February and the featured contestants included architect Sylvia Kwan, owner of Kwan Henmi Architecture/Planning Inc. Sylvia was among the 19 contestants competing for a $1 million prize by "outwitting, outlasting and outplaying" other competitors on a remote Fiji island. Sylvia is a long-time friend of the NAWBO-SF chapter, and we wish her all the best! (If you have been watching the show, you already know what has happened so far -- if not, we don't want to spoil it for those of you who may decide to watch on "On Demand"!)
