"Make Me a Match," NAWBO's Ground-breaking Procurement Summit

NAWBO®-SF Bay Area wants to help its members secure more business during this turbulent economy. On May 15, 2009, NAWBO will host a groundbreaking Procurement Summit that will match women business owners with first-tier suppliers for major Bay Area corporations.

Participation is free for NAWBO members, and those who register for the event will complete a one-on-one evaluation process prior to the summit to help them be matched to the most suitable organizations.

As a first step, we want to support all NAWBO members who wish to become certified before the Summit. Certification is important to corporations with supplier diversity initiatives because it ensures a prospective supplier has passed the due diligence process.

A panel of experts will provide insights into the steps to certification and be available for question, including representatives from:

•   Astra Women's Business Alliance (WBENC Regional Partner Organization and certifier of women-owned businesses)
Tanya Nixon, Senior Supplier Diversity Consultant for Pacific Gas and Electric Company, is responsible for Information Technology, Environmental, Transportation and Energy Procurement portfolios as well as providing outreach in Women Business Enterprise communities. Ms. Nixon is Vice-Chair of WBENC's Northern California regional council and is a member of the certification committee with the Northern California Supplier Development Council (NCSDC). In March 2008, Tanya received NCSDC's award for “Supplier Diversity Advocate of the Year.”

•   Asian Inc. (administers Supplier Clearinghouse certification for California Public Utility Companies for women and minority-owned businesses)
